Tele-News Conference: New research will be released during ACEP's scientific meeting in Denver, providing a close-up look at frequent users of the emergency room, a group often targeted for cost reductions in the health care system. Research results will be presented showing key factors associated with frequent use, as well as the complex nature of the medical problems of these patients. Emergency physicians also will discuss the challenges associated with re-directing patients to other sources of medical care.
10 am (ET), on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
Dr. Robert O'Connor, study author of "Characteristics of Repeat Emergency Department Users at a University Medical Center," one of seven abstracts being released on this topic, will discuss the findings of the research. Other study authors who are attending the meeting will be available to answer questions.
Dr. Andrew Sama, president of ACEP, will discuss the challenges of meeting the needs of these patients and of redirecting them to other sources of medical care.
