CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vital Connect, Inc. (VCI), a growing biosensor technology company, today announced that world-renown global health professional Sir Richard Feachem has joined its board of directors.
Professor Sir Richard Feachem is currently Director of the Global Health Group at the University of California, San Francisco and Professor of Global Health at both the University of California, San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. He also serves as a visiting professor at London University and is an honorary professor at the University of Queensland.
Dr. Feachem was Director of Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank from 1995 through 1999. He later served as founding Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and as Under Secretary General of the United Nations. During his tenure, the Global Fund became the world’s largest health financing institution for developing countries, supporting 450 programs in 136 countries. Dr. Feachem has also served as the Dean of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, as Chairman of the Foundation Council of the Global Forum for Health Research and on numerous boards and committees. He was knighted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2007.
In addition to distinguished service in academia and global health organizations, Sir Richard is a leader in establishing public-private partnerships to bring leading technologies to markets and to the developing world.
