New online game brings reality to virtual gaming

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, PopRox Entertainment officially launched registration for Race 4 My Place – a virtual city-building social game with real-world rewards. Race 4 My Place is the first game launched by PopRox Entertainment and will feature a city-building format where players will construct the city of Los Angeles and play along with friends through their social networks. Users can now sign up to play the game, officially open for game play in December this year.

Race 4 My Place is designed to give real value to social gamers everywhere. Mike Gramling, CEO, was negatively impacted by the downturn in the real estate market. In his quest to get out from under the mortgage burden, he realized that there were so many more people in a worse position than him. He created the game to help change lives and reward communities across the country in very real ways with real-world prizes – including a $200,000 mortgage payoff, or cash alternative of $100,000. Users simply have to play the game in its entirety, and will then be automatically entered into the grand-prize drawing. Players who sign up early will also have the opportunity every week to win monthly mortgage payments (or $1,061 cash).

“After the housing market crashed a few years ago, I, like most Americans, was affected,” said Gramling. “I wanted to create a way to give value back to homeowners, and harnessing the growing social gaming market to do that made sense. The gaming industry is inundated with new online and social games that have no benefit for the end-user. In fact, in 2012, social gamers will spend $2.2 billion on virtual goods, up from $1.8 billion in 2009. More than one third of those who play games have purchased these virtual online goods. Race 4 My Place will provide the same entertainment and functionality of these games, but with real rewards and prizes for their players. The game will open for players to begin building in December, with the game ending in March 2013. Those players who have successfully completed building their city will be entered into the grand prize drawing, and chosen shortly after. The game is free to play, open to U.S. residents, and all winners must be over the age of 18. Players can connect directly through their Facebook account and share with friends instantly. Race 4 My Place is available through a web version for the initial launch, with plans to launch a mobile version next year.
