RI lottery paid $377M to state in last fiscal year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Lottery contributed more than $377 million to the state in the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The state announced the total Tuesday. It includes the lottery's total income once prizes, commissions and operating expenses are deducted.

The amount is $22.8 million more than the previous year.

Proceeds from the lottery go to the state's general fund, which is used to pay for most state services.

The lottery's operating expenses for the last fiscal year were $6.2 million.
