Group promotes vehicles that use alternative fuel

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A group that promotes the use of alternative fuels is taking part in an event at the University of South Carolina.

The Palmetto State Clean Fuels Coalition is holding its National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey on Wednesday outside the Russell House at the university's Columbia campus. The event is one of more than 160 being held across the country.

National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey was created by a program of West Virginia University in 2002 and has been held every two years since.

Odyssey is supported in part by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. Honda and Toyota are 2012 national sponsors and longtime supporters of Odyssey, while AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps and West Virginia University are national partners of the event.
