Friends’ School, Boulder Hosts Event Featuring Parenting Author Dr. Christine Carter as Part of Its 25th Anniversary Gratitude Project

WHAT:

Friends’ School, Boulder, is bringing renowned parenting author Dr. Christine Carter to Colorado to speak on parenting: Raising Happiness: Gratitude, Attitude and Resilience. This is part of the school’s 25th Anniversary year-long gratitude project. Gratitude is a core value of Friends’ School. The Gratitude Project is a year-long, multi-faceted endeavor that spans the school’s community and curriculum. The Gratitude Project is a school-wide focus on the positive power of gratitude. Friends’ is teaching, experiencing and sharing gratitude, weaving the art of being grateful into the school.

WHY:

To honor Friends’ School’s 25th Anniversary, The Christine Carter speaking event is part of the school’s quest to seek a greater understanding of why gratitude leads to happier kids, families and schools.

Friends’ School is also partnering with Dr. Jeff Froh of Hofstra University on Long Island in NY and Dr. Giacomo Bono of California State University on a research study of the impact that its Gratitude Project will have on school culture. Friends’ School is collaborating with them on a curriculum for elementary students, for use at other schools.

ABOUT:

Christine Carter, Ph.D., is a sociologist and happiness expert at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center, an interdisciplinary research unit dedicated to the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being. Best known for her science-based parenting advice, Dr. Carter follows the scientific literature to understand ways to teach children skills for happiness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. She is also the author of Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents and she teaches parenting classes to a global audience online.

Dr. Carter also writes a science-based tips blog for parents, fostering well-being in children. Her parent-to-parent tone and humorous, tell-all approach make scientific research accessible and fun for parents and teachers.
