MALVERN, Pa., Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) is pleased to announce a joint project with the Save a Leg, Save a Life Foundation (SALSAL). The project's mission is to bring the science of wound care to the under-served in resource poor areas of the United States by teaching clinicians the most current, advanced, evidence-based wound care practices. The goal of the project is for AAWC and SALSAL member volunteers to visit resource poor areas of the United States that have been determined to be high risk areas for patients with non-healing wounds. Unfortunately, there are many clinicians in the US that do not have access to the most up to date wound care practices. Education is paramount to health providers in these communities. AAWC and SALSAL will determine the geographic areas in need of education and support within the United States, and more information will be provided to those who inquire.
The mission of the volunteer will be to train local health care personnel who can then provide practiced wound care, and in time, assume the role of training others. Qualified volunteers will be health care professionals who are AAWC Members and who are actively providing wound care or are working with wounds in an academic setting, a clinical practice, wound research, or infection control. Previous clinical or academic teaching experience will be preferred but not required.
