LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Seven Arts Entertainment Inc. (OTCQB:SAPX) ("Seven Arts" or the "Company") announced today the production of Thomasina, the newest film to be distributed by its subsidiary Seven Arts Filmed Entertainment Louisiana (SAFELA) in New Orleans.
Thomasina is based upon the beloved 1957 children's novel Thomasina The Cat Who Thought She Was God by acclaimed author Paul Gallico.
The novel was previously made into the enchanting 1963 family film The Three Lives of Thomasina by Disney. The 1963 production was set in the remote Argyll region of Scotland, whereas this reimagining sees the action transported to the lush bayou wilderness of Louisiana.
Thomasina will be directed by Peter Hewitt, whose feature film directorial debut was the successful Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Hits such as Garfield, Thunderpants and Zoom soon followed.
Esteemed screenplay writer Jim Hart has adapted the original novel for a new era. His impressive filmography includes Hook, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Sahara and Muppet Treasure Island.
The film will be produced by Peter McAlevey, whose previous work includes Body and Soul and Shadow Hours, Jon Brown of Ensemble Entertainment, and family entertainment franchise veterans George Taweel and Marcie Gold. Emmy® Award winner Taweel's credits include the transmedia classic McGee and Me!, Disney's Mousercise series, The All New Captain Kangaroo's Treasure House Programming Block and Gold was a producer on the hit CBS TV series Touched by an Angel.
SAFELA has entered into a Co-Production Agreement with Enriching Pictures Inc. helmed by David Borg (known for family features Supercross, Popstar, Red Riding Hood, and Hansel & Gretel). He will executive produce the film.
CEO of Seven Arts Peter Hoffman commented, "We have long wanted to enter into the arena of family film making and I am thrilled to be starting our journey by working on such a prestigious project, based on a story that has been a family favorite for so many years."
