SAN RAMON, Calif., Dec. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DIRECTV® has joined the Board of Directors of the Multimedia over Coax Alliance, MoCA®.
DIRECTV, a MoCA Promoter member, joined the Alliance in 2008 and has been deploying devices integrating MoCA technology since 2009. To date, millions of DIRECTV set-top boxes and adaptors integrating MoCA technology have been deployed in DIRECTV customer homes in the United States and Latin America.
"MoCA technology is and will continue to be a critical element of our whole home DVR expansion throughout our footprint," said John Norin, vice president, Technology & Ventures at DIRECTV, who will represent DIRECTV on the MoCA Board. "We look forward to helping the organization in its mission of becoming a worldwide standard."
"DIRECTV continues to drive the Alliance and MoCA technology forward as a worldwide standard within the connected home," said MoCA president, Charles Cerino. "We look forward to their contribution and direction as we grow internationally."
MoCA is the worldwide standard for home entertainment networking and is the only such standard in use by all three pay TV segments—cable, satellite and IPTV/telco. MoCA technology is also used as an in-home backbone to extend Wi-Fi® connectivity.
The Alliance has certified 118 certified products and has 50 members worldwide representing the home entertainment networking value chain including service providers, OEMs, middleware developers, consumer electronics companies and chip vendors.
