Academy Awards Jewelry Trend Predictions From Leading Style Expert

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This week Michael O'Connor, celebrity stylist and host of MovieStyle with Michael O'Connor on Reelz Channel, will host StyleLab's styling event for Academy Award nominees, presenters and stylists at a private venue in Los Angeles. Every season O'Connor curates a selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces from world-renowned designers for celebrities to borrow for the red carpet. From colored gemstone earrings to statement necklaces, O'Connor will accessorize Hollywood's leading stars with the most exquisite, highest quality jewelry.

This season O'Connor sees an overall fascination with colored gemstones and intricate designs – both modern and vintage styles. As the biggest award show of the season quickly approaches, O'Connor offers the following trend predictions:

Colored Gemstones

Given that emerald green is the Pantone Color of the Year, expect a lot stunning green on the red carpet. Jewelry designer Takat is showcasing a pair of earrings with 31.38 carats of Zambian emeralds and 11.63 carats of diamonds, valued at $160,000. Farah Khan designed a ring with a 20.12-carat Zambian emerald surrounded by 2.79 carats of diamonds, priced at $25,886. Redheaded or blond actresses including Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts would look gorgeous in emeralds.

Large earrings with multiple colored gemstones will also be prevalent on Sunday. A pair of earrings by Elegant Gems for the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) feature 14.87 carats of multi-colored sphalerite accented with diamonds, priced at $9,000. AGTA's drop earrings by Caroline C. sparkle with 3.61 carats of tsavorites and 58.98 carats of tourmalines, for $18,000. These colorful pieces would stand out on brunette Anne Hathaway, especially with her pixie haircut.

Statement Necklaces

We're finally seeing the return of necklaces to Hollywood. Carrie Underwood wowed us with a major statement necklace at the 2013 Grammy Awards, so be prepared to see a return of necklaces in all shapes and sizes. Jeffrey Daniels Unique Designs for Gem Platinum has a necklace with 35 carats of diamonds, valued at $175,000. Canadian designer Mark Lash is showcasing a bow diamond pendant with cascading drop petals set with 8.25 carats of white diamonds on a diamond chain with 7.70 carats of diamonds, priced at $68,000. And, designer Evelyn Huang's award-winning "Bulles de Champagne Collier" necklace literally has bubbles of tumbling natural champagne colored diamonds, valued at $47,400. This piece is part of The Argyle Diamond Collection, which showcases the beauty of a variety of shades of diamonds available from the Argyle mine in Australia.

Another sophisticated necklace design is from Jewelry By Gail. Their "Climbing Rose" necklace contains a 35.96-carat extra fine pear cut morganite and diamonds on a neckwire, priced at $42,500. Statuesque women including Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence will turn heads in these pieces!

Blackened Metal

Oxidized platinum, gold, and silver give the metal a more vintage-inspired look. Designer Alex Soldier handcrafted a bracelet in oxidized silver with 100 carats of Japanese amethyst and 4 carats of white topaz, valued at $4,000. Designer Vijayshree Sovani's $20,000 blackened metal cuff for The Argyle Diamond Collection features 28.2 carats of diamonds. Salma Hayek would look gorgeous wearing these bracelets.

Edgy Designs

Julianne Hough launched a trend after we saw her wearing earrings that contained an actual scarab beetle at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. J & Y Rocks brings a couture sensibility to this style by mixing spiders and skull designs with diamonds. Their edgy dangling earrings feature 4.35 carats of diamonds, including a black diamond skull drop.
