DENVER, Feb. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plumbing & Mechanical Magazine named Denver's Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric its 2012 Best Contractor to Work For. Steadily growing since the '90s, Applewood hired 34 new licensed Denver plumbing technicians in the past year with a total of 79 trucks in operation daily, with more than 117 total employees.

"It's an honor to be recognized for all of our hard work and dedication," said John Ward, Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric president. "The majority of our recognition should go to our technicians because without them we wouldn't have kept this business thriving for so many years."

Applewood offers many employee benefits including 100 percent health-care coverage for employees and their families, tuition reimbursement, 401K contributions and a safe workplace. In addition, they encourage employee recruitment through their "$500 for Life Refer an Employee" program, which compensates employees $500 every six months for new hires as long as they stay on the job.

Applewood is unique in its approach to hiring, with the process housed under the Marketing Department. This shift gives Applewood the opportunity to position the company to potential employees much like a potential customer. Even with the difficult economy, the company has continued to thrive with revenues totaling $24 million in 2012.

"We have a full-time administrator dedicated to the recruitment of high level service talent," said Paula Washenberger, Marketing director. "We really work to find the best fit for our company, the values we have and the culture we have created."

Having a small-business atmosphere, it is easy for employees to connect with each other and with the owners. "It's not every day you get to speak directly with the president and address your concerns," said Randy Palato, dispatcher.

Applewood believes in having a connection with its employee's families, to that end they host multiple family events each year.

"Employee recognition is important and it keeps us positive and encourages us," said Jaime Rodriguez, a plumbing technician.

Applewood gives just as much to the surrounding community as its employees. Its most recognized program, the "Caring Community Giveaway," is one way the company connects with the communities it works in. Each month, Applewood gives $1,000 to a small, local charity nominated by the community. "We're proud to have contributed more than $80,000 to local causes," said Ward. "We believe in our community just as they have believed in our company."

Serving the Denver/Boulder metro area for 40 years, Applewood has been recognized for the services they provide as a company as well as their community relations and employee benefits. For more information or to apply for a position, visit www.ApplewoodFixIt.com or call 303-232-6611.
