Cramer: Netflix Takeover Could Transform This Company

The market is ripe with speculation that Netflix may be a takeover target. Cramer said if any company is about to make a move he hopes it's Apple.

The Mad Money host thinks Netflix is now the perfect fit, because it's launched a new feature allowing its customers to link their Netflix accounts to Facebook.

Why does that matter?

"Because Apple has been lacking social, and you need the holy trinity of social, mobile and the cloud to triumph in this brave new gadget world," Cramer said.

The Netflix acquisition would complete the triumvirate.

Cramer believes that Apple remains committed to fulfilling the vision of the late Steve Jobs – that is, they want to transform the living room, something the Apple founder had hoped to achieve.

And although the Street widely believed Apple would attempt to do that with a new gadget – a so-called improved iTV, Cramer's grown skeptical it's going to happen.

"I know Apple's been tantalizing us with the idea of a new gadget, but unless they buy a Sprint or a Clearwire, the airwaves could elude them. I simply do not believe that the cable companies are willing to comply with Apple."

Netflix, however, could be just the game-changer Apple needs.

That is, Netflix is already in 27 million homes and due to their Facebook app customers can share with hundreds of millions more.

That's an immediate audience.

Also, Apple would immediately benefit from the industry relationships Netflix has developed with content producers.

"They've already managed to build fabulous bridges with the entertainment companies, many of which need Netflix to get people started on the cable dramas that are virtually impossible to crack into and catch up on without a Netflix subscription."

As for the cost of the acquisition – Netflix has a ten billion market cap. "Ten billion dollars is a rounding error for Apple given its cash hoard," Cramer said.

"It's pretty simple. Apple needs growth and it needs it in a visible red-hot way. Nothing would be hotter than a Netflix acquisition," Cramer said.
