United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce: New Poll Shows Overwhelming Support by Small Business Owners for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON, March 27, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce a new poll released by the Small Business Majority showing overwhelming support for comprehensive immigration reform by small business owners.

The national poll, conducted by a bipartisan group of pollsters, will highlight the views of employers on comprehensive immigration reform. The data reveals their opinions on current immigration reform proposals, including pathway to citizenship, permits for low and high-skilled workers and the value of immigrant labor for the American economy.

"The results from the Small Business Majority poll reinforce the USHCC's stance that immigration reform is an economic imperative for America. The United States is a global leader in fostering entrepreneurship and attracting the world's best talent. We are confident the results of this poll will further highlight the economic benefits of immigration reform and prove that our nation's business community is strongly in favor of a bipartisan solution," USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez said, "Ill-conceived anti-immigration laws are not only bad for immigrants, but are proven to have detrimental effects on local economies."

Highlights of the poll:

• Nine in 10 small business owners recognize that our current immigration system isn't working
• Three-quarters of the respondents believe our country would be better off if undocumented immigrants became legal taxpayers and were granted a pathway to citizenship
• Three in four entrepreneurs recognize there are major economic benefits to be reaped from comprehensive immigration reform◦$1.5 trillion to be added to the economy over the next 10 years
◦ Up to $5.4 billion in tax revenue in the first three years after immigration reform is passed
•84% of respondents believe immigration is good for America
•84% of entrepreneurs support the bipartisan Gang of 8 Senate bill
•74% of small business owners believe we should facilitate the entry for high skilled workers, and 64% believe we should facilitate the entry for low skilled workers
