LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Barkley Court Reporters, a privately owned court reporting firm that serves clients from 22 offices worldwide, today announced that it funded the planting of the 50,000th native tree as part of its global forest restoration initiative. The milestone tree planting coincides with the 43rd annual worldwide Earth Day celebrated today.
Founded in 1972, Barkley is one of the nation's oldest and largest independent court reporting firms, providing depositions, transcripts, videography, Internet streaming and trial technology services to law firms and corporate legal departments. In partnership with American Forests' Global ReLeaf Program, the firm pays to plant one native tree in a forest restoration project for every deposition taken, and a second native tree for every paperless transcript purchased by a Barkley client anywhere in the world.
"Our unique forest restoration initiative is a great way for us to partner with our clients and involve them in this important project to care for our planet's precious natural resources," said Mason Farmani, chief executive officer and managing partner of Barkley Court Reporters. "Now in our fifth decade in business, we are still committed to the highest standards of professional ethics and corporate responsibility. This initiative is just one extension of that commitment."
Every year on April 22, more than one billion people take part in Earth Day. Across the globe, individuals, communities, organizations and governments acknowledge the importance of the planet and take action to protect it. Today, people of all nationalities and backgrounds voice their appreciation for the planet and demand its protection, standing united for a sustainable future, and calling upon individuals, organizations and governments to do their part. "Barkley Court Reporters has been at the forefront of the 'green business' movement for many years," said Pat Barkley, founder of Barkley Court Reporters. "We were the first court reporting company to be certified by a government agency when the City of San Francisco honored us for making a positive contribution to the environmental well-being of our planet. This milestone of planting our 50,000th tree illustrates that our interest in making the planet a better place isn't a passing marketing fad, but rather a serious long-term commitment to reinvesting part of our profits for environmental preservation."
According to Farmani, Barkley continues to invest in the development of technologies to increase efficiencies in how depositions are taken and how transcripts are managed throughout the litigation workflow. The company recently introduced a more advanced version of BarkleyApp, an app for iOS-based and Android-based mobile devices, which provides litigation professionals with secure mobile access to their transcripts, exhibits, videos and related documents. And with BarkleyMobile Transcripts, attorneys can use their smartphones and other mobile devices to quickly read, highlight and comment on transcripts, then share that work product with colleagues and clients.
"These new technology tools are designed to help our clients work smarter and more efficiently, and they have the added benefit of reducing the amount of paper generated in litigation, which is good for the litigation process and good for the planet," said Farmani.
