USHCC PRESIDENT & CEO JAVIER PALOMAREZ NAMED AMONG TOP 100 HISPANIC "GREEN" LEADERS

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Javier Palomarez, President & CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), was named by Poder Magazine among the Top 100 Latino Green Leaders. The list, comprised of political figures, business leaders, government officials, journalists, academia and heads of non-profit organizations featured Hispanics leading the charge on environmental issues.

"We are honored that Poder has recognized Javier Palomarez among influential Latino Green leaders, alongside friends such as former United States Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles and Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio," said Marc Rodriguez, Chairman of the USHCC. "We believe environmental stewardship is everyone's responsibility. It is not only the right thing to do, but in today's economy, it is also an integral part of a sound business strategy" added Rodriguez.

Palomarez launched the USHCC Foundation's Green Builds Business (GBB) program, championing environmental stewardship to America's small businesses. "Green Builds Business was born out of the realization that minority communities are often the first impacted and least educated about bad environmental policy and its consequences. GBB was created to proactively position the Hispanic business community as pioneers – at the informed and profitable forefront of the green revolution. We are committed to continuing programs like Green Builds Business, which teaches Hispanic entrepreneurs that sustainable business practices are both profitable and responsible." said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez.

Green Builds Business has completed a national tour teaching Hispanic small business owners about the money saving benefits and increased profitability opportunities in going green. As a result of the initiative, more than 220 entrepreneurs were trained on practical ways to incorporate green practices into their businesses. Participants are taught how to identify and understand what subsidies and programs they qualify for in order to implement green business practices. Many also received additional personalized trainings on implementing their green business plans.

"Ultimately, we are all accountable for leaving our environment better off than how we found it. As the engine that drives the American economy, small businesses have a tremendous role to play in safeguarding our Earth." concluded Palomarez.
