Emmy-Award-Winning Journalist Val Zavala to Address Leadership Burbank Graduation

BURBANK, Calif., May 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Leadership Burbank, a partnership program of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, the Burbank Unified School District, the City of Burbank, and Woodbury University, will celebrate the Graduating class of 2013 on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 with an event at Woodbury University. The graduation speaker will be award-winning television journalist Val Zavala of KCET.

Graduates will be recognized for their completion of the leadership training program for aspiring community leaders of Burbank.

"This year's class is filled with people who are actively engaged with Burbank's non-profit organizations and important civic organizations," Terry Walker, of Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center, and Leadership Burbank board president, said. "Our program, taught in conjunction with Woodbury University, provides leadership training while exploring issues of economic viability, public safety, social justice, and the common good against the backdrop of real-world tutorials."

Graduates represent local businesses such as realtors, law firms and production studios such as Warner Brothers; government services such as the Burbank Fire and Police Departments; the Bob Hope Airport; and Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center, as well as local churches and non-profit organizations. Dr. Luis Ma. R. Calingo, President of Woodbury University, will welcome guests. Val Zavala, Vice President of News and Public Affairs for KCET and Anchor of SoCal Connected, will address the audience about Community Leadership, speaking on topics such as how to make an impact by partnering with non-profits, businesses and individuals to strengthen the community. Since joining KCET in 1987 Ms. Zavala has won 15 L.A. Emmy awards while covering major issues in southern California politics, education, government, demographics, healthcare, environment, economy, and arts and culture.
