ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., May 9, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico, will join representatives from Kirtland Federal Credit Union (Kirtland FCU) and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) at a ribbon cutting Friday at the home of veteran Joey Campbell, the first Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) grant recipient in New Mexico.
Mr. Campbell received a $7,500 HAVEN grant from Kirtland FCU and FHLB Dallas, as well as an additional $6,600 in funds from Kirtland FCU to replace the worn carpeting throughout his home with hardwood floors. Mr. Campbell is a disabled veteran and had trouble traversing the old carpet. The smooth, hardwood floors provide a safe environment for Mr. Campbell.
HAVEN provides grant funds up to $7,500 to support necessary home modifications for the homes of veterans and active duty service members who have been disabled in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. Mr. Campbell is a U.S. Marine and U.S. Army veteran and served on seven combat deployments, including invasions into Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. He has been awarded two Bronze Star Medals.
