SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 9, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cogswell College, one of the world's leading regionally-accredited institutions offering a unique curriculum that fuses digital arts, engineering and entrepreneurship, is pleased to announce tech industry visionary Joel Slayton as the keynote speaker for its upcoming commencement ceremony for the graduating class of 2013. The commencement ceremony will be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 11:00am.
Mr. Slayton is a tenured professor at San Jose State University where he served as Director of the CADRE Laboratory for New Media from 1988 to 2008. He has conducted research and published a host of academic papers on topics including social software, cooperation models and network visualization. Additionally, Mr. Slayton is Executive Director of ZERO1, "where art meets technology to shape the future." His artworks—which engage with a wide range of media technology including information mapping, networks and interactive visualization—have been featured in over one hundred exhibitions internationally. As an original member of the Visible Language Workshop at MIT in the mid-1970s, he received a National Endowment for the Arts award for his public art spectacles, and was selected for the Xerox Parc Pair Artists in Residence Program.
Students at the commencement will graduate with bachelor degrees in Digital Art and Animation, Digital Audio Technology, Software and Digital Arts Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Fire Administration or Fire Prevention Technology.
