WASHINGTON, May 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On May 2nd, 2013, the Colon Cancer Alliance received Charity Navigator's coveted 4-star rating for the third year in a row. The 4-star rating, Charity Navigator's highest, is given to nonprofits that practice exceptional fiscal responsibility and governance in fulfilling their mission.
"The Colon Cancer Alliance's coveted 4-star rating puts it in a very select group of high-performing charities," said Ken Berger, President and CEO, Charity Navigator. "Out of the thousands of nonprofits Charity Navigator evaluates, only one out of four earns the 4-star rating. The Colon Cancer Alliance's supporters should feel much more confident that their hard-earned dollars are being used efficiently and responsibly when it acquires such a high rating."
Only 9% of the charities Charity Navigator rates have received at least three consecutive 4-star evaluations, showcasing the Colon Cancer Alliance as a leader among other charities in America. This 'exceptional' designation from Charity Navigator differentiates the Colon Cancer Alliance from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.
Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator has become the nation's largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. Charity Navigator's rating system examines two broad areas of a charity's performance: their financial health and their accountability and transparency. The organization reviews charities' financial documents and considers how they expect a charity will use donors' support today, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and their level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information.
"We are honored by this rating," said Colon Cancer Alliance Interim CEO, Jasmine Greenamyer. "The Colon Cancer Alliance is committed to using our financial resources wisely and to the best benefit of our members. Through the dedication of our volunteers and the guidance of our board we strive to make every dollar count. Our donors are instrumental to our work and we appreciate the trust they put in us."
