For the second time this year, the American Red Cross parked its "bloodmobile" just outside the company's main doors, and true to history, employees rolled up their sleeves for a chance to help those in need.

"It just feels good to know you may be saving someone's life," said Morgan Drexen employee Christine Kim. "It's a simple process and a small sacrifice to make, especially when you think about how many people need blood in this country every day."
This most recent blood drive resulted in 29 units of blood being collected for the American Red Cross. A blood drive held at Morgan Drexen in January produced 37 units. At least one more blood drive is planned for later this year. Morgan Drexen was recently honored with a "Silver Award" from the American Red Cross, which is given to organizations that achieve a minimum 20% year-over-year increase in the number of blood units donated. This year the company is shooting for the "Gold Award," which would signify a 30% year-over-year increase.

The American Red Cross reports someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds, which means 44,000 blood donations are needed every day. The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O. As the Red Cross says, "The need is constant. The gratification is instant."
