How to Hold Gains Through 2013: Pro

In the second half of 2013, investors should be looking at how to hold on to gains from the first half, S&P Capital IQ Erin Gibbs said Friday.

A revised GDP growth rate of 1.8 percent was the first thing that Gibbs called out.

"That says we're just hovering above inflation, which essentially means we're going to have zero wage growth and unemployment may not be coming down as quickly as we expect," she said.

On CNBC's "Fast Money," Gibbs also said that China was her other big concern.

"'I do sort of feel that this could be the tip of the iceberg," she added.

"For us, it's more about retaining the gains that you've already had for the year, not so much looking for, you know, the big winners for the second half."

Gibbs's focus, she said, was on "consumer discretionary without international exposure."

Her top stock picks included Dollar Tree, Aetna, Kinder Morgan, Boston Properties and AvalonBay.

Gibbs also added that she believed the sell-off in real-estate investment trusts was overdone.

"They have dividend yields right now of like 5 percent," she said. "And they have strong earnings."
