DETROIT, July 11, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR), the technology performance company, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Maker Faire Detroit at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Mich. With events around the globe, Maker Faire encourages "makers" to create and showcase works of technology, art, science and engineering.
Additionally, on July 27 and 28, Compuware's Professional Services Division will host a "Hack the Museum" event during Maker Faire Detroit. The "hackathon" will feature 25 teams in a one-day design and development challenge, as they create applications that combine The Henry Ford's digital collection with other mobile, digital and social elements.
"A hackathon is a great reflection of the 'maker' spirit and we are proud to bring the event to Maker Faire Detroit this year," said Bob Kennedy, Vice President of Compuware Professional Services. "The goal of Maker Faire is to encourage participants to think outside the box and create solutions that can change the world, which is in line with Compuware's vision."
To compete in the "Hack the Museum" event, teams of one to four individuals will be given the APIs required to develop and build all code between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 27. For those teams that do not have designers, on site design coaches will be available. Each team will present their final mobile application to a judging panel between 9 a.m. to noon, with an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on July 28. The judging panel will consist of representatives from Compuware, The Henry Ford, Make Magazine and University of Michigan – Dearborn.
"We look forward to seeing the innovation and creativity that stems from the talented teams and their applications," said Christian Overland, Executive Vice President of The Henry Ford. "Creativity, ingenuity and The Henry Ford experience are core to Maker Faire Detroit and inspire the innovation we are seeing in mobile and digital technologies today."
Judges will review app submissions based on:
- The originality of the concept;
- Overall application design;
- Quality and experience; and
- The incorporation of The Henry Ford digital assets and other external sources.
No entry fee is required to compete and participants will receive a free one-day ticket to Maker Faire Detroit. Teams can register for the event at http://hackathon.makerfairedetroit.com. For more information, please visit www.MakerFaireDetroit.com.

World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in three years to 500+ makers and 55,000 attendees.
