With events around the globe, Maker Faire encourages "makers" to create and showcase works of technology, art, science and engineering.
Additionally, on July 27 and 28, Compuware's Professional Services Division will host a "Hack the Museum" event during Maker Faire Detroit. The "hackathon" will feature 25 teams in a one-day design and development challenge, as they create applications that combine The Henry Ford's digital collection with other mobile, digital and social elements.

To compete in the "Hack the Museum" event, teams of one to four individuals will be given the APIs required to develop and build all code between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 27. For those teams that do not have designers, on site design coaches will be available. Each team will present their final mobile application to a judging panel between 9 a.m. to noon, with an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on July 28. The judging panel will consist of representatives from Compuware, The Henry Ford, Make Magazine and University of Michigan – Dearborn.
