BELTSVILLE, Md., Aug. 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DfR Solutions, a leader in quality, reliability, and durability (QRD) solutions for the electronics industry, today announced a strategic alliance with Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions. Sherlock Automated Design Analysis™ software will integrate with Abaqus Finite Element Analysis (FEA) from Dassault Systèmes realistic simulation application (SIMULIA) to create an unparalleled tool empowering electronics manufacturers to develop better, more reliable products while reducing product development time and cost.
Sherlock is the first-of-its-kind Automated Design Analysis software for analyzing, grading, and certifying the expected reliability of products at the circuit card assembly level. It is used by the electronics industry across all markets. The integration between Abaqus simulation results and Sherlock reliability predictions for electronic designs will give customers the ability to directly post-process Abaqus output databases (.odb). This will enable customers to leverage the sophistication of the Abaqus solver along with the unique Physics of Failure design analysis of Sherlock. Sherlock can rapidly and accurately predict time to failure in electronic assemblies subjected to a variety of vibration and shock environments.
"Bringing together the specific technical strengths of the two design tools will bring enormous value to electronics manufacturers across industry," stated DfR Solutions CEO Craig Hillman. "This combined capability will greatly increase the number of high-technology companies performing mechanical analysis of their product and result in the substantial reduction in time required to develop design rules from approximately four weeks to four hours."
As part of the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform, SIMULIA applications enable users to leverage physics-based simulation and high-performance computing to explore real-world behavior of products, nature, and life. The Abaqus Unified FEA product suite offers powerful and complete solutions for both routine and sophisticated engineering problems covering a vast spectrum of industrial applications.
"DfR Solutions has a worldwide reputation of excellence in component testing and failure analysis. Their Physics of Failure based Sherlock Automated Design Analysis™ software is groundbreaking," said Dennis Corain, Manager Alliances and Partnership, SIMULIA, Dassault Systèmes. "We believe in the enhanced value that an integrated Sherlock/Abaqus solution can improve product development for customers in the electronics and high-tech industries."
