Why Ryan Lochte just swam in the Hudson River

If you were near the Hudson River on Tuesday morning, you may have seen 11-time Olympic medalist and reality TV star Ryan Lochte swimming there.

The stunt was staged by the Combos snack brand, owned by privately held Mars Inc. Lochte dove from a moving vessel about halfway across the Hudson and swam to shore on Manhattan's West Side, delivering pizza-flavored Combos snacks to onlookers watching from the river's edge.

"I've never swam through the Hudson, but you know what, if there's water, it's a piece of cake," Lochte told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" afterward.

Lochte added that aside from training, his career is focused on media appearances such as his involvement with the E! Entertainment program "What Would Ryan Lochte Do?" as well as commercial appearances and sponsorships.

"If someone asked me to be in a movie, I'd be more than happy," he added.

E! Entertainment is owned by NBC Universal, parent company of CNBC.
