SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that it was awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to provide Continuous Monitoring as a Service (CMaaS) to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as part of the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Program. Patrick Howard, a practice leader with Kratos and the former Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), will lead the effort to provide comprehensive solutions to address near real-time threat detection requirements within the government.
The CDM program seeks to defend federal and other government IT networks from cybersecurity threats by providing continuous monitoring sensors (tools), diagnosis, mitigation tools and CMaaS to strengthen the security posture of government networks. The CDM approach moves away from historical compliance reporting and toward combating threats to the nation's networks on a real time basis. The BPA has an estimated $6 billion value over the life of the contract, which has a one-year base and four one-year options.
"We look forward to providing federal agencies with exceptional continuous monitoring solutions to protect and defend information technology systems and networks in real time from the ever-increasing volume of cyber-threats," said Christopher Fountain, Sr. Vice President of the Kratos SecureInfo business group. "Kratos has a long history of working successfully with the DHS and is excited by the opportunity to expand the Government's defensive cybersecurity capabilities."
Patrick Howard will apply his hands-on experience and lessons learned in dealing with these issues as a CISO in the Federal Government to this program. In addition to his prior service as the CISO of the NRC, Mr. Howard served as the CISO of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where he managed HUD's enterprise-wide IT security programs. He has a stellar track record of building programs that are highly effective. He is also the author of several highly regarded security books.
Kratos' Continuous Monitoring Solution enables organizations to sustain their security posture through continuous monitoring as specified by NIST 800-37, NIST 800-137, FedRAMP and other pertinent standards and guidance. The services range from providing an in-depth assessment of a continuous monitoring program to playing an ongoing role in the delivery of continuous monitoring services. Kratos' consultants are well equipped to manage and execute all aspects of a continuous monitoring program.
