Austrian Unemployment Falls in December

Austria's jobless rate fell to 4.7% in December, the Labor Ministry said Tuesday, crediting job training measures and general economic improvement.

As of Dec. 31, the number of Austrians who were registered as out of work declined by 28,173 to 279,109, compared with December 2005, a drop of 9.2%, according to preliminary figures released by Economy and Labor Minister Martin Bartenstein.

Calculated using European Union standards that adjust for seasonal influences, the overall unemployment rate was 4.7%, Bartenstein said.
