Sodexho Alliance, the world's second-largest catering company, said Wednesday fiscal first-quarter revenue rose 5.8% on rising demand in continental Europe, Britain and Ireland.
First-quarter revenue for the period ended Nov. 30 rose to 3.55 billion euros ($4.6 billion) from 3.36 billion euros in the same period the previous year, Sodexho said in a statement.
The company said revenues for the period rose 9% on an organic basis, stripping out the contribution of acquisitions and the exchange rate effect.
"I am very satisfied with the level of growth in all of our activities for the beginning of the year," Sodexho Chief Executive Michel Landel said.
Sodexho's food and facilities management services division posted a first-quarter sales increase of 5.4 percent to 3.455 billion euros ($4.49 billion). Like many French companies, Sodexho reports revenues and profits separately.
