Rep. Barney Frank is one of the most senior members of the House, having served as a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts for about 25 years. Prior to that he served in the Massacusetts state legislature. Frank has degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He was born and raised in New Jersey. Rep. Frank chairs the powerful panel which has oversight over sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities -- as well as such agencies and instistutions as the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank, the World Bank, and the IMF.

Voting Record

Rep. Frank is considered one of the more liberal, consumer-oriented members of the House. Thus far this year, among other things, he as voted in favor of bills that 1) allow the government to negotiate directly with drugmakers for lower prescription drug prices for individuals using Medicare 2) lower the interest rate on student loans and 3) increase the minimum wage.

Shareholder Vote on Executive Compensation Act

This bill is Rep. Frank's latest initiative and one of his more high-profile ones. Coming in the wake of a wave of controversial CEO pay packages, the bill does not seek to cap executive pay but it does seek to give shareholders more say in the compensation process.
