CNBC Europe Makes Key News Appointments

CNBC Europe, the leading pan-European business and financial TV channel, has appointed two news editors to its European news team.

Martin Baccardax has been appointed European news editor and will be based at the network's regional headquarters in London. Baccardax will have responsibility driving and co-ordinating daily and long-term financial news coverage from the UK and across Europe. Baccardax has more than 15 years financial markets and journalistic experience and joins the network from Bloomberg News, where he was editor responsible for all fixed-income credit and interest rate market coverage in Europe. Prior to that he spent three years as Assistant News Editor and reporter at Dow Jones Newswires, where he also covered credit and interest rate market news.

Baccardax is no stranger to CNBC Europe as he has been a frequent contributor and guest on CNBC Europe's Closing Bell programme. He has also written for the Wall Street Journal Europe and has made regular TV and radio appearances on CNN, ITN, ITV, and the BBC.

Bettina Wassener has been appointed German news editor, based at the network's Frankfurt bureau, where she will lead the daily editorial coverage for the channel. She will work with the local reporters and producers to further strengthen the breadth and depth of coverage from Germany. Wassener joins from BusinessWeek where she has been the Frankfurt correspondent since October 2005.

Prior to that, Wassener was Frankfurt correspondent for the Financial Times for five years where she covered news, features and analysis on a wide range of corporate, economic and political stories. Wassener was also a web page producer for FT.com, where she developed the Markets News page, commissioning, editing and writing online material.

Both Baccardax and Wassener will report to Barbara Stelzner, Head of News for CNBC Europe. Stelzner commented, "With these two appointments we've further strengthened our news teams. Both Bettina and Martin are highly experienced financial journalists who will help us maintain our position as the world leader in business news."
