Altadis is Last Large Deal for Imperial Tobacco

Franco-Spanish cigarette maker Altadis is the last large takeover on the horizon for Imperial Tabacco, Gareth Davis, CEO of Imperial Tobacco told “Worldwide Exchange.”

But it could be abandoned if the books reveal no further potential value for shareholders, Davis said.

Imperial Tobacco is currently being refused access to Altadis books, but Davis is not frustrated.

“All we can really ask for is a level playing field. I think it’s in Altadis shareholders’ interest for us to be given access so we can evaluate these areas of additional value,” he said.

Even though Davis called this potential deal the “last large transaction” he said smaller deals could be an alternative if it falls through.
