The Food and Drug Administration reported that two U.S.-based companies are recalling livestock and fish feed ingredients because they melamine, an industrial chemical connected this month to feed shipments containing ingredients from China.
The source of the melamine in the most recent recall was in the United States, the FDA said. The recall is not connected to a recent episode pet food tainted with ingredients from China.
Some of the tainted feed may have been exported, and the FDA is contacting affected countries, the health agency said.
The two companies were identified as Tembec BTLSR, a unit of Canadian firm Tembec Inc., and Uniscope Inc.
