The Chicago Mercantile Exchange said it is not currently in merger talks with the New York Mercantile Exchange, in a statement released after U.S. markets closed Friday.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported the New York Mercantile Exchange , the world's largest energy market, was exploring a sale for about $14.3 billion.
The report also said top NYMEX executives met with their counterparts at three suitors, NYSE Euronext , Deutsche Boerse and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings .
