On grade the trade we test the trading prowess of some of the most promising business students in the nation. This week they’re from Marquette, Old Dominion and the University of Michigan.

Our business school students have been given the questions in advance, and have 30 seconds to answer.

Grad #1: Semiha from Marquette University Graduate School of Management

Here’s the scenario. Due to the falling dollar, foreign companies begin buying US. companies en masse. What are you buying and what are you selling as this scenario unfolds?

Semiha is buying US manufacturing companies such as Deere (DE), Illinois Tool Works (ITW) and more. She’s shorting European electronics companies such as Ericsson (ERIC) and Nokia (NOK).

Grad #2: Martin from Old Dominion University College of Business

Here’s the scenario: Oil, which has weakened in the latter part of the last four years, follows this predictable pattern again and drops to $60. What are you buying and what are you selling as this scenario unfolds?

Martin is selling Occidental (OXY), BP (BP), Shell (RDSA), Exxon (XOM) and Chevron (CVX). He’s also buying gold, oil futures and shorting the dollar. And he’s buying discount retailers.

Grad #3: Mike from The University Of Michigan Ross School Of Business

Here’s the scenario: Yahoo buys Facebook. What are you buying, what are you selling as this scenario unfolds?

Mike is buying Yahoo! (YHOO) and he’s selling Match.com parent Interactive Corp (IDC) as well as Time Warner (TWX) and Google (GOOG).

Jeff Macke gives Mike a B- because he’s long Yahoo! and Jeff says that company is dead to him!
