Lack of Online Privacy can be a Good Thing

Everyone gripes about the fact that there's no privacy online and Web surfers' personal information is exploited. But sometimes our actions online should be transparent -- there needs to be some accountability in this world of Wikis, where users are counted on to police inaccuracies and update news.

Now it's been reported that Fox News has made changes to Wikipedia entries of their competitors and critics. How'd the news get out? A Fox News IP address was found to be the source of changes to Al Franken's entry -- specifically changes about a Fox lawsuit against Franken.

Enter Wikiscanner -- a new company that uncovers the people and companies behind Wikipedia edits. Wikiscanner found the Fox edit and is tracking down other questionable changes.
