CVS August Same-Store Sales Rise 4.9%

CVS Caremark, the drugstore chain and pharmacy benefits manager, Thursday posted a 4.9 percent rise in August sales at stores open at least a year, driven by strong sales of general merchandise.

CVS said same-store pharmacy sales increased 4 percent in the four weeks ended Aug. 25 while same-store sales of general, or "front-end" merchandise such as candy and cosmetics, rose 6.8 percent.
