Think you know what’s hot and what’s not? Find out from Google’s 2007 year-end Zeitgeist report.
Zeitgeist, means “the spirit of the times” according to Marissa Mayer, Google VP of Search and User Experience. And every year the search giant compiles a list of its "fastest rising U.S. search terms" then publishes them in Google’s year-end Zeitgeist report.
Here are some highlights.
- Apple's (AAPL) iPhone was the year's fastest rising search term. Is it a sign of Apple's momentum?
- In entertainment, Hannah Montana far outpaced the Rolling Stones as well as Barbie. Could that signal strength for the Disney (DIS) franchise?
- Microsoft's (MSFT) Xbox led the way most of the year in game consoles, but Nintendo's (NTDOY) Wii is really taking off this holiday season. Does that make Nintendo a buy?
- Although Blu-ray is popular, HD DVD is generating a lot more interest.

Can you trade the Zeitgeist report?
I’m not so sure about trading search term trends, Jeff Macke said. I recommend caution.
Pete Najarian agreed. Traders shouldn’t read too much into these results.
