Scott Jordan Blogs about his Big Idea Experience

By Scott Jordan

Participating in The Big Idea was an amazing experience. I was so impressed by the insights of the other panel members. In fact, I plan to implement many of the suggestions we discussed on the show into my SCOTTEVEST’s business in 2008. I bought Tim Ferriss' book, The 4-Hour Work Week, at the airport on my way home and plan to implement his strategies in the new year too.

Starting and growing a new business is an overwhelming experience. I have been doing this now for 7 years, but each day brings new challenges and opportunities. Donny's show is a great resource. I watch it every night and constantly learn from it.

In addition to taping the show, I was asked to star in a commercial for American Express, featuring the new Plum Card. It was done in front of a green screen, and I had to pretend that gadgets were falling all around me, with an imaginary xray machines running over my body showing the hidden gadgets. It was hard work, but tons of fun. Unfortunately, at the last minute they decided to pull the commercials, but they may run them at a later date. Perhaps if you all chime in, they would be more inclined to run it :-).

If my first appearance on The Big Idea this past September is any indication, I expect that this airing will result in a huge bump in sales and interest. As a result of the first show, which has aired 3 times already, in addition to the sales and traffic, I got emails from some very famous people, including Herbie Hancock and Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple. Woz's email caught me completely by surprise, given that he was my idol growing up. Since I can’t summarize the email, I will just reprint it without edits below:

Dear Scott,

I have to tell you how much I admire you, for your entrepreneur story as well as your products. I can't remember when I saw such a great interview. I speak about the Apple story but yours is much more relevant for all the budding entrepreneurs out there. Everywhere I go there are dozens or hundreds of hungry faces of people who would love to hear your story.

I do love my Scott products but don't [yet] use them enough. I'm so constantly busy that I don't even have my clothes in a closet but in piles on my floor (my eVests are hanging though). My son has worn your vest for years and everywhere he goes he has everything. He does have fun in airports!

I am a true fan of yours and am going to send that video to my list. I can't tell you how proud I am just to know you!

Highest regards,

I cannot express in words the emotions I felt upon receipt of this email. As a result, I asked Woz to serve on our Board, and he agreed: see

All this was possible as a result of my appearance on Donny’s Show. I hope everyone has a great holiday season and a healthy new year.
