And The Winners And Losers Are...

tomorrows_playbook.jpg

What were the biggest winners and losers of 2007, and how do you trade them?

TOP PERFORMERS 2007

Jacobs Engineering (JEC) +144%
National-Oilwell Varco (NOV) +141%
Amazon.com (AMZN) +139%
Apple (AAPL) +134%
MEMC Electronic (WFR) +131%

Jacobs Engineering’s backlog grew 39% year over year, says Guy Adami. The valuation might be getting a little rich but the infrastructure play is real. Buy this stock on any pull back, he adds. Also, there’s also no reason to back away from NOV, says Adami, however the valuation on this stock is rich.

Also, there’s no reason for Amazon or Apple to pull back says Pete Najarian. And MEMC Electronics is a smart way to dip your toe in the solar world because they make wafer chips.

WORST PERFORMERS 2007

E*Trade (ETFC) -83%
Countrywide (CFC) -79%
Circuit City (CC) -77%
Washington Mutual (WM) -70%
MBIA (MBI) -70%

All these losers went away from their core business where they make money, says Pete Najarian

ETFC is simply a bet that someone buys them out. If that doesn’t happen, I think this stock is dead money says Adami.

Following are the stocks analysts say will be the worst performing Dow components in ’08.

General Motors (GM)
Pfizer (PFE)
Caterpillar (CAT)
Dupont (DD)
Citigroup (C)

Conventional wisdom suggests if analysts loathe them ahead of the new year – investors will love them by the end of the year. (It's kind of a contrarian play.) Are they buys, asks Erin Burnett.

I live Pfizer says Guy Adami

I don’t know why CAT is hated says Jeff Macke. Must be a lot of dog people in the analyst community.

#2 - Trading Tech's Comeback Kids

Microsoft (MSFT),Intel (INTC) and Oracle (ORCL) all finished strong in 2007 after a rocky start. Should you bet on tech's comeback kids in 2008?

Don’t bet against these stocks, says Jeff Macke.

I love Microsoft going into ’08 says Guy Adami. $32 which was resistance will likely become support.
