Reader Poll: Too Much Recession Talk?

I'm no economist, but I have a comment. I believe the average "consumer" wouldn't even know about a recession if the media didn't harp on it every day. The constant barrage is a self-fulfilling prophecy. By telling everyone a recession is inevitable, they will stop spending and we will indeed have a recession.

-- Robert M. from Pennsylvania.

Have you forgotten that it is tax season? I will use my rebate check to pay my taxes. Net effect to the economy = $0.

-- Donald F.

There seems to be a disconnect between the government, the Fed and the consumers. The government and the Fed want the consumers to spend like crazy. On the other hand, the consumer is constantly being chastised for not saving.
