More Coffee Makers Announce Price Increases

List prices of Maxwell House, Yuban, Chock full o'Nuts and other popular coffee brands were raised on Tuesday as manufacturers pass on to consumers higher prices for green coffees.

Kraft Foods said it raised list prices on its Maxwell House and Yuban roast and ground coffees due to higher green coffee prices.

Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA, a unit of the privately held Italian company Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group, also raised the list prices of many brands, including Chock full o'Nuts, MJB, Hills Bros. and Chase & Sanborn.

Those price hikes followed Monday's move by Procter & Gamble, the largest U.S. roaster and industry trendsetter, to raise its list prices for Folgers ground and instant brands by 6 percent.

The moves follow a price hike by major U.S. roasters in October.

Kraft spokeswoman Bridget MacConnell said the company's move will mean a price increase of 15 cents per equivalent pound. Instant coffees will increase 3 cents per ounce, she said.

Zanetti's price hike will be 15 cents for 10.5 to 13 ounce equivalent, which is roughly 6 percent, for roast and ground canned Chock full o'Nuts, MJB, Hills Bros and Chase & Sanborn.

Spokesman Brian Kubicki said instant coffees will increase by 24 cents per unit for Chock full o'Nuts, Hills Bros and Chase & Sanborn brands.
