History and Luxury at the Hotel Fauchere, Milford, Pa.
This hotel was a weekend getaway for the rich and powerful in the 19th Century, and now has been reincarnated as a 21st Century hideaway.
The Fauchere is located in one of the prettiest towns in Pennsylvania, the town of Milford, on the edge of the Delaware Water Gap, 75 miles northwest of New York City.
It’s set in an 1880 Italianate building that has been completely reborn thanks to a meticulous five-year renovation. As you enter you see the original marble and chestnut floors, along with many other original design elements. The 16 guest rooms, though, are definitely state of the art, featuring rain showers, radiant-heat floors, flat-screen TV’s, and iPod docking stations.
Food is a big focus at this hotel — the Delmonico Room’s décor includes a collection of vintage menus from top European restaruants of the 1920’s. The chef recreates some of these menus for today’s modern palate paired with recent vintages of the suggested wines of the past.
The Culinary Escape package includes two nights in a deluxe room, a complimentary bottle of wine in your room, a picnic lunch from the hotel’s Delmonico Restaurant, and dinner for two at the restaurant. Cost: From $575, double, through April. Savings 25 percent.
