Breakouts & Breakdowns

Our friends at quantitative research firm Fusion IQ sort through 1000s of stocks in order to find those that are breaking out or breaking down!

They use parameters including 1) price trend 2) money Flow and 3) short interest to come up with these nice looking charts.

Breakout: Family Dollar (FDO)

The Trade: This chart says to me it’s a nice time to sell Family Dollar, counsels Jeff Macke. The stock is now ahead of itself.

Breakdown: Joy Global (JOYG)

The Trade: Joy Global made a 52-week low on Tuesday but I’d stay away right now. I think the breakdown stems from forced liquidation.
