Pops & Drops: Hess, Alcoa...

Following are the day’s biggest winners and losers. Find out why shares of Hess and China Petroleum popped while Alcoa and UBS dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Hess (HES) popped 1%. Although Goldman Sachs took the stock off its conviction buy list, shares still jumped as the spot price of crude surged higher. - They're like salmon swimming up stream, says Karen Finerman. In other words they went against the current.

China Petroleum & Chemical (SNP) popped 3%. Despite weakness in China, this stock moved higher on the sharp increase in oil prices. - I'd put this stock on my radar, counsels Tim Seymour.

Oil Service Holders (OIH) popped 2%. This ETF also traded in the same direction as the spot price of crude; higher. - That's not surprising, muses Karen Finerman.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Alcoa (AA) dropped 3%. Goldman Sachs cut the firm to neutral from buy saying increased supply will curb gains in the metal's price. - I'd move on, says Joe Terranova.

UBS (UBS) dropped 3%. The Swiss government agreed to hand over details of 4,000 plus UBS bank accounts to settle allegations of tax evasion. - I'd step in on a move down like this, says Tim Seymour.

Electronic Arts (ERTS) dropped 2%. After Sony announced a major price cut for its Playstation 3 investors to feared this and other videogame makers may need to do the same to jumpstart lackluster sales. - I'd keep an eye on the space, says Pete Najarian.

Deere (DE) dropped 3%. The firm warned that it would barely break even in the current quarter and that it would cut production by as much as a third because of weak demand for construction equipment and a sharp drop in overseas orders for farm tractors. - I like Deere and I'd stay with this stock, counsels Joe Terranova.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) dropped 5%. The China-based maker of solar-power modules posted a second quarter loss of 44 cents while analysts expected a profit of 4 cents. - The margins are killing them, explains Pete Najarian.
