Pops & Drops: Boeing, Walgreen...

Following are the day’s biggest winners and losers. Find out why shares of Boeing and Walgreen popped while Siemens and MBIA dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Boeing (BA) popped 3%. Investors turned bullish on this stock after the company announced some new government contracts and on hopes the 787 will see a test flight this year. - Nice pop, says Karen Finerman.

Walgreen (WAG) popped 9%. The nation’s largest drugstore chain beat on fourth quarter earnings due to higher revenues and pharmacy sales. - I like it, says Steve Grasso.

Palm (PALM) popped 3%. The maker of the Pre rolled out its new webOS software. - I think everything is coming together for this company, says Joe Terranova.

Polo Ralph Lauren (RL) popped 4%. Goldman Sachs upgraded the retailer to ‘buy’ from ‘neutral’ citing expansion in Asia and a positive trend in same-store sales. - Good for them, says Pete Najarian.

Children’s Place (PLCE) popped 3%. Investors are betting that despite a decline in consumer confidence, parents will still spend on their kids.

Barrick Gold (ABX) popped 3%. The miner climbed along with the price of gold as investors turn to this precious metal as a hedge against inflation.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Siemens (SI) dropped 2%. Europe’s largest engineering company said order bookings fell 20% from last year in the fourth quarter.

MBIA (MBI) dropped 5%. Standard & Poor's cut its ratings on this firm and its structured finance insurance arm, MBIA Insurance Corp, citing an expectation the company will continue to take significant losses from insuring risky loans.
