Activison CEO: Consumer Spending Still a Worry

Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick told CNBC that a change in the video game maker's release schedule caused the company to forecast a weaker than expected fourth quarter, but he is confident about the upcoming release of games such as DJ Hero and Band Hero.

"We have a spectacular release schedule," Kotick said in a live interview. "The questions is ... is the consumer going to materialize?"

Activision is the largest publisher of online games, but Kotick said the company still plans to continue releasing retail-based games in the future.

"We think that there's a very happy medium," he said. "We're in a category that, unlike most media categories, continues to grow at a very rapid rate."

Activision on Thursday posted a third-quarter profit of 1 cent a share.

Video games have struggled through the recession, posting six straight months of negative sales figures. The industry posted its first monthly sales gain in September, but it was only a 5 percent jump.
