Pops & Drops: Cigna, Verizon...

Following are the day’s biggest winners and losers. Find out why shares of Cigna and Verizon popped while Jefferies and Ciena dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Cigna (CI) popped 7%. JPMorgan upgraded this company to an 'outperform' from 'neutral,' citing moves to the upside once debate over reform subsides. - I also like this name, says Karen Finerman.

Verizon (VZ) popped 3%. Call it a Barron's bounce; this company was among 10 highlighted by the magazine as a strong dividend play. - Giddyup, exclaims Pete Najarian.

AT & T (T) popped 3%. Barron’s strikes again, this time saying the stock has many positives, including its cash flow and a strong management team. - But, if they lose iPhone exclusivity I'd be concerned, says Joe Terranova.

Diedrich Coffee (DDRX) popped 30%. Peet’s increased its bid for the company after rival Green Mountain made its own offer at $30 a share. - I think Green Mountain ends up winning, speculates Karen Finerman.

LDK Solar (LDK) popped 7%. The Chinese solar name continued last week’s climb generated by a surprise profit in Q3 and an outlook that topped estimates. - Nice numbers, says Pete Najarian.

UPS (UPS) popped 2%. The company said it plans to raise rates as much as 5% next year. - At 22 times forward earnings valuations are too rich, says Guy Adami.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Jefferies (JEF) dropped 6%. Goldman downgraded the firm to 'sell' from 'neutral' citing a slowdown in fixed income, currency and commodities and a Q4 earnings miss. - I'd establish a position around $23.50, counsels Guy Adami.

Ciena (CIEN) dropped 9%. The company agreed to acquire a division of Nortel Networks that makes networking gear for $769 million. - I'd buy it against $11, says Joe Terranova. I think it trades to $16.50.
