Pops & Drops: Potash, Denny's...

Following are the day’s biggest winners and losers. Find out why shares of Potash and NewsCorp popped while Barrick Gold and Denny’s dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Potash (POT) popped 4%. Goldman upgraded the fertilizer name to ‘conviction buy’ from ‘buy’ citing a recovery in demand in 2010 and last week’s sell off providing a good opportunity to get in. - I like the story, says Joe Terranova, but I'd rather be long Intrepid Potash.

NewsCorp (NWSA) popped 3%. The company's film Avator topped the box office, bringing in almost $300 million domestically. - $14.50 looks like resistance, says Guy Adami.

Chattem (CHTT) popped 33%. Sanofi agreed to buy the consumer drug maker for $1.9 billion, at a 34% premium to its close on Friday. - That's a huge takeout, muses Tim Seymour.

CVS Caremark (CVS) popped 3%. Reports that health care reform had advanced in the Senate sparked buying in the space, broadly. - I like this stock here, reveals Karen Finerman.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Barrick Gold (ABX) dropped 2%. Dollar short covering dragged down gold prices and this miner too. - I like FCX better, says Joe Terranova.

Denny’s (DENN) dropped 6%. Two key executives resigned, citing “challenging” sales and the “external operating environment” amid increasing competition. - I don't like seeing people jump ship, says Guy Adami. I would not be a buyer.

E Trade Financial (ETFC) dropped 2%. The online brokerage failed to find a permanent replacement for its CEO and instead named board member Robert Druskin its interim chairman and chief.

Visa (V) dropped 2%. After last week’s rally, investors appeared to take profits.
