PREVIEW OF GARTMAN'S LETTER

Here’s a sneak peak at what will be front and center in Friday’s Gartman Letter.

I’ll be looking at the barbell in retail, says strategic investor Dennis Gartman on Fast Money. I suggest selling the middle end such as Abercrombie & Fitch and I’d get long the selectively on the high end or low end; names such as Family Dollar and Dollar Tree .

WIRESLESS WARS

In the cell phone wars, it really comes down to two competitors: Apple and RIM And the iPhone threw a right hook Thursday, with Apple saying it was opening retail stores in China.

Is there any reason to bet against the iPhone in a market with a billion customers?

I like RIM better, says Jared Levy. RIM already is in 170,000 organizations around the world. They've got 475 carriers in 160 countries. I just don't think Apple can pry that business away from RIM. I think the pure play on smartphones is long RIM.

I don't think you can compare RIM to Apple, counters Guy Adami. The balance sheets alone are apples and oranges ... or should we say Apple and RIM.

OPTIONS ACTION: NETWORKING NAMES

Pete Najarian has spotted unusual options action in Brocade and Netapp. What should you make of it?

A large volume of Brocade April 6 calls and April 7 calls as well as a large volume of NTAP March 31 calls leads Najarian to speculate these stocks could make a sharp move to the upside.
