Back From the Brink: Market Statistics

Following today's earlier story on the anniversary of the market bottom (read Best Performing Stocks Since March '09), here are some more statistics showing how far markets around the world have come.

Major Indices

  • Since March 9, 2009, the Russell 2,000 lead the gains, up 95.08%
  • The NASDAQ Composite comes in second, with a gain of 84.51%


S&P Sectors

  • Among the 10 major S&P sectors, Financials are up the most, rising 145.43%
  • Consumer discretionary and industrial stocks take the second and third places


Commodities

  • Of the commodities tracked by CNBC's Analytics team, palladium futures are up the most, rising 136.3%
  • Crude oil advanced 73.2% from last year's levels, while gold rose 22.3%
  • Wheat and soybean meal futures are the only commodities down since last year, with losses of 6.5% and 2.4%, respectively


Currencies

  • Against the US dollar, the Australian dollar has seen the biggest percent jump since the March low, up 43.4%
  • The New Zealand dollar comes in second place, with a gain of 40.9%

Global Indices

  • Russia and Argentina lead the way within the major global indices
