This morning, I briefly spoke to Mark Steinberg, Tiger's agent and senior vice president and global managing director of IMG golf.
Our first topic was the Nike ad that has generated so much buzz:
Steinberg: "When Nike approached me about it, I said let's shoot this and decide after if it works. Nike knew that there was a possibility we'd shoot it and then decide not to go through with it. This wasn't a product spot. It wasn't about selling anything. It was about a moment in time where Tiger was acknowledging that there was a lot in his life that he was not proud of and this is what his father would have said to him."
On doing future endorsement deals:
Steinberg: "We'll be working on the things in the future, but now just doesn't seem to be the time to consummate any new deals. I'm not going to circle a date on the calendar either as to when that time might be. That will be based on how he is received, how he plays and when it just feels right.
